Dr. Brenda J. Tabor-Adams

Brenda J Tabor-Adams, DVM, cVSMT, cVMRT, cVMA is the sole owner and veterinarian of Sorrel Veterinary Service, LLC. While Sorrel Veterinary Service has its roots as a mobile veterinary practice focusing on equine medicine and functional dentistry, Dr Brenda is now known for her whole body approach to traditional veterinary medicine and the use of alternative therapeutic modalities for all domestic animals.

Dr Brenda always wanted to be a veterinarian. Her journey and eventually, the naming of her veterinary practice, was inspired by the medical and lameness issues of her fiery red childhood mare, “Flicka”. In the quest to know more, Dr Brenda started by pursuing a BS in Animal Science with an equine emphasis and a Chemistry minor from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, and then went on to graduate from the University of Madison – School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997.  Her veterinary career began as a mixed animal practitioner with most of her day comprised of tending to beef/dairy and equine clientele. In 2005, Dr Brenda started her own mobile large animal veterinary practice in Chetek, Wisconsin which quickly transitioned into an equine only service as the area’s needs changed. Sorrel Veterinary Service, LLC was formed as a tribute to “Flicka” and from a desire to provide high quality yet “down-to-earth” care.

An interest in dentistry, hoof balance and their influence on the biomechanics of the horse carried her through the long hours of a single practitioner, but, over time, her frustration with patient results using available diagnostics and medicine of the time lead Dr Brenda to look into other therapeutic options. She obtained certifications in Veterinary Massage and Rehabilitation and Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (legal term for Animal Chiropractic in Wisconsin) from the Healing Oasis Wellness Center in Sturtevant, WI in 2012. This certification changed her approach to patient care forever. A certification in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture from Curacore in Fort Collins, Colorado followed in 2016.  The certifications and use of Laser, Joint Yoga, Reiki and MagnaWave pemf therapy also helped take her practice to the next level. Dr Brenda’s interest in science and life-long learning drives her to be open to all new aspects of veterinary medicine, wellness and ultimate animal performance.

While Dr Brenda is still primarily a horse veterinarian at heart, her current practice focuses on equine bodywork/acupuncture and dentistry. Over the last few years, she has welcomed several canine patients into her clientele and is open to working on any domestic animal. The blend of traditional and alternative realms has allowed Dr Brenda and Sorrel Veterinary Service, LLC to offer a new type of veterinary medicine to Northwestern Wisconsin.

When Dr Brenda isn’t assisting animals, she spends time on the farm with her husband and son where they have Angus/Simmental beef, chickens, ducks and a few cats. Of course, she is still obsessed with her “several” horses and hangs out with them as much as she can. Dr Brenda also recently developed a new appreciation for herding stock and enjoys working her dogs.
